HISTORY OF YOUTH 2000

YOUTH 2000 began in 1989, as a challenge from Pope John Paul II at World Youth Day in Santiago de Compostela, Spain when he said, “It is to you young people the task first falls of becoming witness to the faith and of bringing into the third millennium the Gospel of Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, the Life.” Filled with zeal and enthusiasm young people took seriously the Holy Father’s challenge and began a decade of evangelization through Retreats centered on the Eucharistic.

Once again in Rome at World Youth Day in 2000, Pope John Paul II challenge the young people, "Set the Euchartist at the center of your personal life and community life, love the Eucharist, adore the Eucharist and celebrate the Eucharist." Through Eucharistic centered Retreat YOUTH 2000 continues with the same zeal and enthusiam to accept the challenge of the Holy Father. YOUTH 2000 promotes a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through love and devotion to the Eucharist, thus drawing young people into the service of the Catholic Church and service to others.

YOUTH 2000 INTERNATIONAL MISSION STATEMENT AND GOALS

YOUTH 2000 is an international spiritual initiative established to draw young people through Mary to a deep and lasting union with Jesus Christ, especially in the Eucharist, the “source and summit of Christian life."

1. To promote a knowledge and love of Jesus in the most Blesssed Sacrament.
2. To promote devotion to Mary, the Mother of God, especially through the rosary.
3. To promote fidelity to the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Magisterium.
